Fans and friends were shocked when Satish Shah unexpectedly passed away while eating lunch at home. In a tribute that was published in the Indian Express, Ratna Pathak Shah remembered their last conversation. On 25 October at 12:57 PM, Satish texted her a humorous message: "I'm often mistaken for an adult because of my age." Ratna responded at 2:14 PM with, "That's just right for you!"

Two hours after they spoke, producer JD Majethia sent Ratna a message at 3:49 PM informing her of Satish's death, stating, "Satishbhai is no more!" It was difficult for everyone who knew him to accept the news. He had earlier that day sent similar cheerful notes to a large number of individuals.
