Karnataka Minister B Nagendra on Friday announced his resignation from the state Cabinet and said he would also step down as an MLA, amid allegations of financial irregularities in the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation.
Addressing a press conference, Nagendra said he had decided to "voluntarily step down" to avoid causing "embarrassment to the party". He also accused the BJP of targeting him through its "manuvadi" politics.
The BJP had been mounting pressure on the Karnataka government, demanding Nagendra's resignation over the alleged irregularities.
