The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday, labelled the remark of the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "unfortunate." The ministry clarified that Gandhi's comments do not reflect the official position of the Indian government.

The development comes after Rahul Gandhi compared PM Modi to US President Joe Biden by saying Modi is "also losing his memory." Reacting to the statement made by Gandhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told news agency ANI that the "multifaceted partnership" of India with the United States has been built over years through perseverance, mutual respect, and commitment.

He added that such comments do not align with the warm and friendly ties shared by the two nations. "India shares a multifaceted partnership with the United States, and this partnership has been built over years of perseverance, togetherness, mutual respect and commitment by both sides. We see such reports as remarks as unfortunate, and they're not in keeping with warm and friendly ties with the United States and do not represent the position of the government of India," Jaiswal told during a press briefing.
