
Tamil Nadu opens all 13 shutters of Mullaperiyar dam after heavy rains

All 13 shutters of the Mullaperiyar reservoir were opened for targeted discharge of 5,000 cusecs of water, and it may be increased in accordance with the rule curve, said Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department (WRD) officials on Saturday (October 18, 2025).
Officials said that following heavy rainfall in the areas surrounding the dam, the inflow was 40,733 cusecs and the reservoir level was at 132.90 feet at 11 p.m. on Friday (October 17). At 3 a.m. (October 18), the storage level reached 136 ft.
Following this, the officials discharged 1,078 cusecs at 9 a.m. (Oct 18) from the radial gates R, R2, and R3, and at 9 a.m., the water level stood at 138.45 ft.
