Ricky Ponting hopeful of coaching in IPL after parting ways with Delhi Capitals
Ricky Ponting has expressed his continued interest in coaching in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after he departed from Delhi Capitals, where he served as head coach for seven years. Ponting's exit from the franchise was largely due to the team's inability to secure an IPL title during his tenure.
In a recent interview on The ICC Review podcast, Ponting reflected on his time with Delhi Capitals, acknowledging that the lack of silverware was a significant factor in his departure. "I'd love to coach again in the IPL," Ponting stated. "I've had a great time every year that I've been involved, whether as a player in the early days or as head coach at Mumbai before joining Delhi."
Ponting hinted that Delhi Capitals might be seeking an Indian-based coach for the upcoming seasons. "What you'll find is that they'll probably end up with an Indian-based head coach. They made it pretty clear that they wanted to head in a different direction with someone that could give them a bit more time and availability through the off-season," he explained.
