National Commission for Women seeks immediate probe into sexual harassment allegations against DMK worker Deivaseyal

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of serious allegations of sexual harassment levelled by a woman against her husband R. Deivaseyal, a DMK worker in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu.

In a statement, the NCW said considering the grave nature of the accusations and the political affiliations of the accused, the chairperson had written to the Director-General of Police, Tamil Nadu, calling for immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation in the case.

The letter emphasised the need to ensure the survivor’s safety, constitute an independent investigation team, prevent any political interference, and take prompt action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The commission had also sought a detailed action-taken report, along with a copy of the FIR, within three days, the statement released in the official social media handle of the NCW said.
