Man gets 10 years for marrying, sexually assaulting minor girl

A Chikkamagaluru court on Wednesday convicted a man of sexually assaulting a minor girl and sentenced him to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of ₹45,000.

Nagaraj, 34, a resident of Tarikere taluk, was accused of sexually assaulting a minor in December 2025. The Lingadahalli police registered the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and filed the charge-sheet after investigation.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Chikkamagaluru, who heard the case, sentenced the accused to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹45,000. The court also ordered relief of ₹1 lakh to the victim under the Karnataka Victim Compensation Scheme.
