Kottayam reports fall in polling percentage

The district has witnessed an impressive voter turnout of nearly 75% as polling for 111 local bodies ended on Tuesday, leaving political fronts with their fingers crossed about the outcome to be revealed on Saturday. The voter turnout stood at 74.52% by 7.45 p.m., though the final figure was yet to be released.

The polling percentage surpassed the 2020 figure of 72.49% with municipalities recording 75.09% and tri-level panchayats 77.14% voter turnout. The Kochi Corporation saw a lower turnout of 62.44%, compared to the rest of the local bodies, in tune with the electoral records of previous polls.

The initial hours of the voting witnessed brisk polling across the district with 22.52% of voters exercising their franchise by 10 a.m. Voting started at 7 a.m. The figure crossed 50% by 1 pm.
