
India Puts Indus Water Treaty On Hold, To Close Attari Border After Pahalgam Terror Attack

In a significant retaliatory move, India has decided to hold the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance on Tuesday. The decision was taken during the meeting of the Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other highly-placed officials.
The decision comes in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that has reignited calls to revisit the decades-old water-sharing agreement with Pakistan.
Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF) killed 26 tourists (25 Indians and 1 Nepali citizen) in Pahalgam while they were sightseeing.
