India is ranked amongst the 100 most corrupt countries in the world, according to the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) released by Transparency International.
This year, India ranked 96th out of 180 countries, falling three positions from its 2023 ranking. India shares its spot with two other nations - Gambia and Maldives.
The CPI, which serves as a global barometer of public sector corruption, assigns scores on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). In 2024, India received an overall score of 38, down from 39 in 2023 and 40 in 2022.
