HC Refuses To Intervene In Babri-Style Mosque Construction In Bengal, Foundation Event Tomorrow

The Calcutta High Court on Friday refused to stop the construction of a mosque in Beldanga, Murshidabad, which is being modelled on Ayodhya’s Babri Masjid and proposed by suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir.

The court’s remarks came just ahead of the planned foundation-laying ceremony on December 6 — a date that also marks the anniversary of the demolition of the original Babri Masjid, news agency PTI reported.

A division bench led by Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul heard a PIL requesting a halt to the ceremony and ruled that maintaining law and order in the region would be the responsibility of the West Bengal government.
