India batter Virat Kohli became the third India batter to score an ODI century on his birthday. Kohli achieved the feat while batting against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Playing their 8th group stage match of the tournament, Kohli navigated India in the first innings in what turned out to be a slow pitch in Kolkata.

The India batter walked into the pitch inside the first powerplay after Rohit Sharma was dismissed after a rapid 40 runs. Kohli struggled against Kagiso Rabada in the early stages of his innings. After the dismissal of Shubman Gill in the 11th over, Kohli held the innings with Shreyas Iyer and put together over 100 runs for the third wicket.

India batters struggled to score at a fast rate in the slow Kolkata track. Even Virat Kohli, who had come out to bat in the 6th over, completed his century in 119 balls in the 49th over of the match.
