As the rise in coronavirus cases continues unabated in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now allowed home quarantine for asymptomatic patients and for those having mild symptoms.

"It has come to light that a large number of asymptomatic patients are concealing the fact of them being infected which could surge the cases. The government will allow home isolation for Covid-19 patients who are asymptomatic and have mild symptoms. However such patients and their family members will have to follow the health protocol and guidelines," a statement by the state government said.

The decision has been taken by the UP government reportedly due to a spike in cases in prominent cities and to take the load off the hospitals requiring beds for serious patients. However, the government maintains it has enough beds for Covid-19 patients across the state.
