As the rise in coronavirus cases continues unabated in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now allowed home quarantine for asymptomatic patients and for those having mild symptoms.

"It has come to light that a large number of asymptomatic patients are concealing the fact of them being infected which could surge the cases. The government will allow home isolation for Covid-19 patients who are asymptomatic and have mild symptoms. However such patients and their family members will have to follow the health protocol and guidelines," a statement by the state government said.

The decision has been taken by the UP government reportedly due to a spike in cases in prominent cities and to take the load off the hospitals requiring beds for serious patients. However, the government maintains it has enough beds for Covid-19 patients across the state.

Earlier, even asymptomatics and those having mild symptoms were being quarantined in government facilities in Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued an order to send special medical teams to Lucknow, Kanpur, Basti, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Ballia, Jhansi, Moradabad and Varanasi, where cases are rising, to tackle the situation.

The chief minister has also directed officials to ensure that all the required facilities are available in Covid hospitals and that sanitisation, cleanliness work is conducted in full-swing in the weekend lockdowns.

"Health and medical education department should ensure effective action to bring down the Covid mortality rate to minimum and launch mass awareness programme for protection from the virus," Yogi Adityanath told top officials.

The UP government last week allowed paid hotel isolation for asymptomatic patients and those with mild symptoms. Directions were also issued to deploy health teams at the notified hotels.
