Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asserted that the Congress needed to answer for dismissing Tamil Nadu’s democratically-elected government led by the AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran (MGR).

Campaigning here for candidates of the NDA, Mr. Modi also sought an apology from the Congress for the attacks on Sikhs in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s assassination in 1984. Wishing the people of the State a ‘Happy Tamil New Year’, the Prime Minister lauded the role played by the AIADMK leaders MGR and Jayalalithaa, who had been elected to the State’s Legislative Assembly from Theni district.

He asserted that people should remember that in Tamil Nadu and in many other States, the Congress had formed alliances, not to take the nation forward, but with a single point agenda to ‘defeat Modi’. Promising that he would always remain vigilant, he said he would ensure that these parties (Congress, DMK) never came back to power.
