A big sigh of relief for India’s tennis team as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) shifted the Fed Cup matches from the Coronavirus-hit China to Kazakhastan. Concerned for its players’ health due to a medical emergency in China, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) had sent a written request to ITF for a change in venue.

AITA requested the world governing body to consider either shifting the venue or postponing the tournament, originally scheduled to be held in Dongguan from February 4. However, the Indian team is likely to without its senior-most player Sania Mirza, who has aggravated a calf injury.

Sania, who was included in the Indian Fed Cup team after four years, had pulled out from mixed doubles and women’s doubles events in the ongoing Australian Open 2020 due to injury.
