The Congress' Delhi unit on Sunday passed a resolution to re-appoint Rahul Gandhi as the president of the party with immediate effect. Sitting Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad, Gandhi had resigned from the post of the Congress president following the party's crushing defeat in the 2019 general elections.

President of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Anil Kumar convened a meeting of senior leaders at Rajiv Bhawan on Sunday to take stock of the political situation. The meeting was attended by Congress leaders Shakti Sinh Gohil, Jagdish Tytler, Ramesh Kumar, Krishna Tirath, Dr Narendra Nath, Dr Yoganand Shastri, Dr Kiran Walia and Haroon Yusuf among others.

During this meeting, the DPCC passed three resolutions unanimously.

The first resolution was aimed at requesting Rahul Gandhi to take over as the president of the Indian National Congress (INC). "Rahul ji has been waging a determined battle to expose the misdeeds of the Modi Government, and his leading from the front as the Congress President was an urgent need to boost the confidence and morale of the Congress workers," DPCC president Anil Kumar said.
