Bihar Cop Mowed Down By Tractor Carrying Illegally Mined Sand, Team Formed To Nab Driver

A police officer was killed by sand mafia in Bihar's Jamui district on Monday under the limits of Garhi police station after a team of the police reached a mine to stop illegal mining. A truck carrying illegally mined sand mowed down Sub-Inspector Prabhat Ranjan of the 2018 batch. A personnel of the Home Guard was seriously injured and was undergoing treatment at a hospital, said the Office of Superintendent of Police, Jamui in a press release.

The tractor has been seized and a special raid team has been formed to nab the driver, the police said, adding that the driver has been identified and is a resident of Nawada.

"Garhi police station was taking action continuously against illegal sand mining. Action was taken against several sand mafia and illegal tractors. This morning, input was received about sand mining being done," Deputy Superintendent of Police Abhishek Kumar Singh told ANI.
