External affairs minister S Jaishankar has expressed optimism about India getting a permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. The minister said that it is “inevitable”, but called for heightened efforts in this regard, PTI reported.

Jaishankar, while addressing intellectuals in Rajkot, said that diligent work is essential to secure the coveted position in the world peace body. At present, Russia, China, France, United States and United Kingdom are the five permanent members of the Security Council.
Jaishankar said that the international momentum is now favouring India's bid for a permanent seat.
