US Embassy Warns Of ‘Significant Criminal Penalties’ For Illegal Immigrants

The United States Embassy in India has issued a firm warning to migrants and prospective immigrants, saying those who break United States law will face “significant criminal penalties," as the US prepares for a tougher stance on immigration in 2026. The advisory, shared on the embassy’s official X account, stressed that the Donald Trump administration is committed to ending illegal immigration and strengthening border security.

“If you break US law, you will be punished with significant criminal penalties," the embassy’s post said, underscoring that the US government aims to protect national borders and its citizens.

The warning comes amid ongoing delays in visa appointments, particularly for H-1B and H-4 work and dependent visas, which have left thousands of Indian applicants waiting in India. Additional adjustments to immigration and border-related fees, part of annual regulatory changes under the “One Big Beautiful Bill (HR-1)," also took effect as the new year began.
