The Indian film and music industry has lost one of its most cherished voices. Veteran singer and actress Sulakshana Pandit passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age of 71. According to reports, she had been battling a prolonged illness. Known for her melodious voice and graceful screen presence, Sulakshana carved her own niche in the 1970s and 1980s, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate with music and cinema lovers alike.
Born on July 12, 1954, in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, Sulakshana Pandit belonged to a Pandit family, which gave the world several noted musicians, including her brothers Jatin-Lalit, the famous music composer duo. She started her musical journey when she was just nine, and her talent quickly caught the attention of leading composers of the era.
She made her playback singing debut in 1967 with the film Taqdeer, where she sang alongside the legendary Lata Mangeshkar in the evergreen number “Saat Samandar Paar Se.” The song became an instant hit and further cemented her image. Later, she went on to deliver many soulful tracks.
