Steve Jobs’s wife, set to visit Mahakumbh, gets Hindu name from Niranjani Akhara
Laurene Powell Jobs, the wife of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, is in India to attend the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, which begins on January 13. Kailashanand Giri Maharaj of the Niranjani Akhara, a prominent Hindu monastic order, revealed on Friday that Laurene has been given a Hindu name, "Kamala," during her visit.
Accompanied by Kailashanand Giri Maharaj, Laurene visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi on Saturday. The Maharaj shared that she came to India to meet her guru and meditate. "We have named her Kamala, and she is like a daughter to us. This is her second visit to India. Everyone is welcome at the Kumbh," he said.
When asked if Laurene would be included in the Akhara's prestigious ‘Peshwai’ ceremony, the Maharaj said, "We will try to include her, but it’s her decision. She is here to experience and learn about our traditions. We feel honored that she respects our culture."
