Elon Musk’s Starlink has reportedly received the approval from the Indian government to operate its satellite internet services in India. According to a report by Moneycontrol, Starlink has been issued the Letter of Intent (LoI) by the Department of Telecom (DoT). However, the report reveals that the company is yet to get the “final licence”, which it will be issued upon fulfilling “all licence conditions”.

“Yes, Starlink has been issued LoI by the Dot for GMPCS, VSAT and ISP licences in India,” a government official reportedly told Moneycontrol. “The final licence will be given once Starlink is able to fulfil all licence conditions," the source reportedly added.

Meanwhile, a Washington Post report suggests that there could also be a trade angle in the sudden push for Starlink services in India. Reportedly, Indain government officials have moved quickly to approve Starlink's entry into India as it could be a step that could support broader trade talks with the US.
