Simone Biles clinches 7th Olympic gold after historic second gold in women’s vault
USA’s Simone Biles etched her name in record books as she clinched a gold medal in the women’s vault final on Saturday, August 3 at Bercy Arena – Vault. Biles secured gold with a score of 15.300 while Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade won the silver medal with a score of 14.966. USA’s Jade Carry finished third with a score of 14.66 and secured a bronze medal.
Notably, Biles became just the second woman after Vera Casalavska of Czechoslovakia to win two Olympic gold medals in the event. She earlier won her first gold in Pole Vault at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The American gymnast now has a total of ten medals in Olympics, including seven gold.
She’s now tied at third for most Olympic medals by a female gymnast and has the most medals by any gymnast in international competitions (40). Following her historic achievement, she expressed delight to be competing in Olympics. The legendary gymnast also said that people who criticized for pulling out of Tokyo Olympics due to mental health concerns are now silent.
