Russian airstrikes on the Kherson area in southern Ukraine killed five people on Sunday, according to Ukrainian officials, while Russian-installed officials in the eastern town of Horlivka stated one person was killed as a result of Kyiv’s bombardment.

Russian forces abandoned Kherson, the administrative seat of the Kherson region on the Dnipro River in southern Ukraine, and the western bank of the river more than a year ago, but have subsequently shelled various areas there from their positions on the eastern side.

According to Ukrainian officials, the casualties in Kherson happened as a result of continuous Russian shelling of the city and surrounding area during the previous 24 hours.
