Rahul Gandhi To Contest From Raebareli, Congress Fields Kishori Lal Sharma Against Smriti Irani In Amethi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will contest from Raebareli, a seat represented by his mother Sonia Gandhi for four terms until she was elected to Rajya Sabha this year.

The party fielded Kishori Lal Sharma against Union Minister Smriti Irani in Amethi.

Friday is the last date of filing of nominations for both seats that will go to polls on May 20 in the fifth round of the seven-phase general elections.

The BJP on Thursday announced Dinesh Pratap Singh as its candidate from Rae Bareli. He had lost to Sonia Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The sources said Gandhi family loyalist Kishori Lal is likely to contest from Amethi, which Rahul Gandhi lost to BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019. Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi is likely to attend Rahul Gandhi’s nomination process if he is fielded, the sources said.
