President Claudia Sheinbaum seeks charges after being groped in Mexico City

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has filed a formal complaint against a man who groped her and attempted to kiss her in public, describing the incident as a reflection of the broader threats women face in Mexico.

Speaking a day after a video of the assault went viral, Sheinbaum said the episode tells about the daily risks women endure in a country still plagued by machismo and gender-based violence.

“If this happens to the president, where does that leave all the young women in our country?” Sheinbaum said. “No man has the right to abuse women’s personal space.”
