Over 200 children to get monthly aid under Anbu Karangal scheme in Erode district

Chief whip of the Tamil Nadu government and Coonoor MLA K. Ramachandran handed over ₹2,000 as welfare assistance for the education of 63 orphaned children as part of the ‘Anbu Karangal’ scheme in Udhagamandalam on Monday.

The district administration said the assistance would be extended to the children till the turned 18 years. The Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru was present. At the event, Mr. Ramachandran spoke highly of the ‘Thayumanavar’ scheme, aimed at tackling poverty in the State. He also said that it was the State government’s ultimate goal to bring 100 per cent literacy to the State, and that the scheme to provide financial assistance would ensure that children from underprivileged backgrounds would have a chance to complete their education.

Ooty MLA R. Ganesh and officials from the School Education Department were present.
