No Proposal Made To Maldives For Bilateral Free Trade Agreement: India

Government denied on Thursday it had made any specific proposal for a bilateral FTA with Maldives. However, it said if Maldives expresses interest in having an FTA, India will give it due consideration.

Last week, Maldivian minister Mohamed Saeed had indicated that India has initiated efforts to have an FTA between the two countries. "They (India) want there to be a Free Trade Agreement with Maldives, in addition to South Asian Free Trade Agreement," Saeed had said at a press meet in Male.
