Need framework to deal with challenge of biological weapons: Jaishankar

India on Monday called for the creation of a robust global framework to prevent the misuse of biological weapons, citing rising security uncertainties worldwide.

Speaking at an international conference marking 50 years of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), External AffairsExternal AffairsExternal Affairs Minister S Jaishankar warned that the threat of biological agents falling into the hands of non-state actors is “no longer a remote scenario".

He urged countries to work together to strengthen global safeguards.

Jaishankar underscored that despite the growing risks, the BWC remains without key institutional structures.
