H.J. Dora, former Director General of Police of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, passed away at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad on Friday (March 13, 2026). The 83-year-old retired police officer suffered from ill-health and was undergoing treatment.
An IPS officer of 1965 batch, he served as the DGP for 1996 to 2002, and also as Intelligence Chief. It was during his tenure that the intelligence-driven anti-naxal operations were taken up. Born in 1943 in Srikakulam district, Dora served the Police Department for nearly four decades, earning a reputation for discipline and working to bring reforms within the force.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow on the passing away of Dora and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members. The Chief Minister noted that Dora made significant efforts to introduce various reforms in the Police Department.
