Monsoon To Intensify Across India, Expect Heavy Rainfall In Northwest, Central, And East
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday forecast above-average rainfall across most parts of India for July, cautioning that central India, Uttarakhand, and Haryana are particularly vulnerable to flooding. The warning comes amid reports of rain-related damage and ongoing monsoon disruptions in various regions across the country.
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the IMD, noted that while average maximum temperatures are expected to remain within or below seasonal norms in several regions, elevated temperatures may persist in parts of the northeast, northwest, east, and the southern peninsula.
Highlighting rainfall concentration, Mohapatra identified central India, the adjoining southern peninsula, including regions like eastern Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, Telangana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, as areas expecting significant rainfall. He also emphasised the need for heightened precautions in Uttarakhand due to the presence of major river catchments and densely populated urban centers. He added that good rainfall is also expected in Haryana.
