Maharashtra government approves bill to extend 10% reservation to Marathas
New Delhi: It is a big day for Maratha Quota Activist Manoj Jarange as the Maharashtra Cabinet has approved of the Maratha Quota today. After conducting a special session of the Maharashtra Cabinet, 10% Maratha Quota has been approved for government and education jobs in the state.
The bill, extending quota to Marathas above the 50% mark has been approved; this is similar to the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Act, 2018, introduced by the then Devendra Fadnavis government. This is the third time in a decade that the state has introduced legislation for the Maratha quota.
The decision to convene a special session was prompted by Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil, who is on a hunger strike at Antarwali Saarati village in Jalna district.
