A petition has sought the urgent intervention of the Delhi High Court to provide medical aid to activist Sonam Wangchuk and end his 17-day hunger strike by force-feeding him. Wangchuk, who inspired Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots' character of Phunsukh Wangdu, has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar as part of a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) seeking the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak case.
The PIL, filed by activist and lawyer Rakesh Kumar Saini, mentioned that if Wangchuk continued with his hunger strike, he could end up losing his life in two days, according to a report by Bar and Bench. It has sought directions to the Centre and the Delhi government to take Wangchuk to a hospital and force-feed him.
The petition pointed out that Wangchuk's health parameters had worsened, and if he passes away, it would be a matter of "great shame for the country and the world".
