Like Dr & Prof, teachers to get ‘Tr’ prefix in Karnataka

In a move aimed at giving the teaching profession a distinct identity and greater social recognition, Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday announced that teachers in the state can use the prefix ‘Tr’ before their names.

Making the announcement on Teachers’ Day, Shivakumar said the prefix would be a mark of respect for teachers and their contribution to society.

The move puts teachers alongside professions that use recognised prefixes such as “Dr” for doctors, “Er” for engineers and “Prof” for professors.
