A Malaysian Airlines aircraft from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah made an emergency landing at Chennai airport on Monday due to a technical issue with one of the engines.

Officials of Airports Authority of India (AAI) said the flight departed with 186 passengers from Kuala Lumpur at 3.30 p.m., and a little later, when the pilot suspected that the engine number two was malfunctioning, he requested the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Chennai airport permission for landing.

The authorities made all the necessary safety arrangements, and the flight made an emergency landing at the airport at 4.40 p.m.
