Iran Plans To Send Women Protesting Hijab Mandate To Psychiatric Facilities

Iran has announced the opening of a ‘treatment facility’ for women who refuse to comply with the country’s mandatory hijab regulations. The move, which enforces the hijab more strictly, has been condemned by several human rights organizations and women’s groups.

The country’s intention to establish the ‘facility centre’ is to enforce the hijab regulations, while women’s organizations view it as an escalation of the government’s crackdown, with some even calling it a ‘prison’.

Mehri Talebi Darestani, the head of the Women and Family Department at the Tehran Headquarters for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, stated that the clinic will treat women in a scientific and psychological manner. The announcement has been met with strong disapproval among women in the country.
