The ParisParisParis Olympics 2024 turned out to be an absolute spectacle. Starting with the opening ceremony on July 26 until the closing ceremony on Sunday, the quadrennial event has entertained throughout with top nations from around the world plying their trade. The United States became the most successful team with 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze).
China finished second in the list followed by Japan, Australia, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Korea, Italy and other big teams. But over the course of the last couple of weeks, a few incidents took place that grabbed the limelight. Athletes from various sports found themselves in the centre of controversies.
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat faced a heart-wrenching disqualification due to a slight weight issue in the women's 50kg category. Despite making history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final, Phogat was found to be 100 grams overweight on the morning of her final match against Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA.
