India’s aviation sector may soon see more choice for passengers after the government cleared two new airlines to start preparations for flying. Al Hind Air and FlyExpress have received no objection certificates from the civil aviation ministry, as the government looks to reduce heavy dependence on a few airlines following recent disruption at IndiGo.
The approvals come at a time when India’s domestic aviation sector is growing fast, but competition remains limited.
Another airline, Shankh Air, based in Uttar Pradesh, has already received its NOC and is expected to begin commercial flights in 2026. Together, these new players are expected to slowly add more options in a market that is currently controlled by a few large airlines.
