The Government of Punjab, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, launched 118 ‘Schools of Eminence’ for students in grades 9 to 12. There is a consistent rise in student enrollment in these institutions. While enrollment starts in the 9th grade, there is considerable competition for admissions into the 11th grade.

For the first time, government schools are preparing students for competitive exams. From the 11th grade onwards, students are being trained for JEE, CLAT, NEET, and other such examinations. Notably, 25% of the students in these schools are from private institutions, which indicates the educational standards of these government schools.

The Government of Punjab has allocated 15,104 seats for 11th-grade students under the School of Eminence programme. So far, 158 students from the School of Eminencehave qualified for the JEE.
