Florida Judge Indefinitely Postpones Trump Documents Trial

The highly anticipated trial of former President Donald Trump in Florida on charges of illegally keeping classified documents after leaving office has been indefinitely postponed. The trial, originally set for May 20, has been delayed, significantly reducing the likelihood of Trump facing a jury in the two federal criminal cases against him before the upcoming November 5 US election.

US District Judge Aileen Cannon, appointed to the bench by Trump in 2020, announced the delay, stating that the trial would not commence on the previously scheduled date. Instead, pre-trial hearings are now slated to continue until July 22, with no new trial date set.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 40 federal counts accusing him of retaining sensitive national security documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after leaving office in 2021 and obstructing U.S. government efforts to retrieve them.
