Dhiraj Bommadevara Paris Olympics 2024, Archery: Know Your Olympian
Young Indian archer Dhiraj Bommadavera has been in stunning form in the last few months. Combining with Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav, Dhiraj guided India to a win against Korea to clinch gold in Shanghai. This was also India’s first-ever victory in this category for 14 years. Dhiraj, who joined the Indian Army in 2021, had won another World Cup medal in Shanghai having teamed up with Ankita Bhakat. The Indian pair had bagged a bronze medal in the mixed-team event. The 22-year-old Andhra Pradesh-born archer had also won a prestigious team silver at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
At last year’s Asian Games, Dhiraj Bommadavera succeeded in reaching the last eight individually. In the quarter-finals, Dhiraj faced defeat at the hands of Ilfat Abdullin of Kazakhstan. Dhiraj was also an individual silver medal winner at the Asian Outdoor Championships in 2017. At the Asian Grand Prix Circuit, he has so far claimed two golds (2024) and one silver medal (2018.) Dhiraj registered a third-place finish in his debut tournament in 2008.
