A major political uproar erupted in Madhya Pradesh's Datia after the BJP denied a ticket to former Home Minister Narottam Mishra in the Assembly by-election and fielded Ashutosh Tiwari instead. Angry supporters of Narottam Mishra blocked a highway, causing a massive traffic jam that continued late into the night.

Heavy police deployment was made to clear the blockade, and authorities resorted to mild force, including lathi-charge and tear gas, after protesters allegedly turned violent and pelted stones. According to officials, eight police personnel, including senior officers, sustained injuries during the clashes.

Several protesters were detained, and traffic had to be diverted due to the prolonged blockade. Women supporters also participated in the demonstrations and staged protests on the roads. Narottam Mishra had been preparing for the by-election for months and had even purchased nomination papers, leading his supporters to believe he would be the BJP candidate.
