CPI State secretary M. Veerapandian on Thursday said the State government should not go ahead with its plan of providing government jobs to the relatives of Karur stampede victims in the absence of any standard guidelines on it.
He told reporters here that the CPI did not oppose any support to the victims of tragedies. It had no reservation on supporting the victims of Karur stampede on compassionate grounds. However, providing government jobs to them was not acceptable as there were no standard guidelines on the subject. The State government should stop its plans to give government jobs to the Karur stampede victims until framing guidelines on it.
Mr. Veerapandian said the Karnataka;s move to build a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu would jeopardise the interest of farmers of Tamil Nadu. Hence, it should not go ahead with the project.
