'Congress was overconfident': Uddhav's Sena blames MVA ally for Maharashtra flop show
Fissures emerged in the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) following its rout in the Maharashtra Assembly polls with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve blaming the Congress for being "overconfident" after the Lok Sabha polls. Danve claimed that the grand old party was not valuing its allies, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar-led NCP.
The MVA mustered only 46 of 288 seats in Maharashtra with the Shiv Sena (UBT) getting 20, Congress 16 and Sharad Pawar's NCP 10 in the November 20 Assembly polls, the results of which were declared three days later. The alliance had put up a stunning performance in the Lok Sabha polls, securing 30 of 48 seats.
The Congress squandered its early lead in Haryana, handing the BJP a third consecutive victory despite the party battling anti-incumbency. In Jammu and Kashmir, the grand old party failed to make inroads in the Jammu region, which was swept by the BJP, although its INDIA bloc ally, National Conference, formed the government, with its support. In Jharkhand, the JMM-led alliance formed the government, with the JMM securing 34 of 81 seats while the Congress got 16.
