The Congress on Wednesday expelled its leader Sanjay Nirupam from the party for six years with immediate effect after taking note of the complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements.
The Congress initiated disciplinary action against former MP Sanjay Nirupam for his remarks against the party leadership amid seat-sharing talks with ally Shiv Sena (UBT), and a decision about him will be taken in a day or two.
Earlier in the day, the grand-old party dropped Nirupam’s name from the list of star campaigners, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole said after attending a meeting of the party’s campaign committee in Mumbai.
