Calcutta High Court cancels all OBC certificates issued in West Bengal since 2010
Kolkata: In a significant development, the Calcutta High Court has struck down the OBC status of several classes in West Bengal. The court has found that the reservations under the 2012 Act for vacancies in services and posts in the state are illegal.
The ruling from the court stresses that those who are already under the benefits of the Act, be it through employment or reservation privileges, will remain unaffected. This also includes those who have been selected successfully in any state process. The decision of the court on the challenges against the Act’s clauses doesn’t affect these individuals.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday asserted that she “will not accept” the Calcutta High Court order scrapping the OBC status of several classes in the state.
