Babar Steps Down From Pakistan White-Ball Captaincy - Full Statement Here
Babar Azam has decided to step down from the white-ball captaincy of Pakistan men’s national team. In a late-night social media post on October 2 (Wednesday), Azam announced his decision to step down from T20Is and ODIs captaincy stating his desire to ‘prioritise’ his batting performance and spend time with family. Notably, this is the second time he has resigned as Pakistan captain. Earlier, Azam stepped down from all-format captaincy after Pakistan’s poor 2023 ODI World CupWorld CupWorld Cup campaign in India.
After his resignation from captaincy in 2023, Azam was reinstated as Pakistan’s white-ball captain in March of this year after an overhaul in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) leadership.
After Azam’s return to captaincy, Pakistan toured to Ireland where they won the three-match T20I series 2-1 and then went to England, where they lost the four-match T20I series 0-2.
