Apple appointed Amar Subramanya, a Bengaluru-educated artificial intelligence researcher with senior stints at Google and Microsoft, as its new vice president of AI- a major leadership shake-up as the company races to catch up in the global AI arena. Amar Subramanya replaces longtime AI chief John Giannandrea, Apple announced, adding that he will report to senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi and will oversee several critical domains, including Apple Foundation Models, machine learning research and AI safety and evaluation.
“We are thankful for the role John played in building and advancing our AI work, helping Apple continue to innovate and enrich the lives of our users," CEO Tim Cook said, adding that Apple is “pleased to welcome Amar to Craig’s leadership team," highlighting his “extraordinary AI expertise".
Amar Subramanya is widely regarded as an engineering leader who excels at turning cutting-edge AI research into real-world consumer products. Before joining Apple, he served as corporate vice president of AI at Microsoft, where he contributed to major advancements in enterprise and consumer AI systems.
