Apologise or face strict action: Govt's 3-day ultimatum to Meta over PM video row

The warning comes just a day after Nishikant Dubey, the chairman of the panel, said that Zuckerberg should apologise for the temporary blockade on PM Modi's reel. He also warned that Meta may lose "safe harbour" protection available to intermediaries under Section 79 of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Additionally, the Parliamentary panel has also sought action from the Centre against the head of Google India after investors lost more than ₹48 lakh due to fraud apps.

Meta's global team will be in India on August 5 and 6, revealed IT Secretary S Krishnan on Tuesday.

The government said that it will raise a number of issues, including lapses in dealing with child sexual exploitative and abuse material (CSAM), as well as wrongful action on prominent accounts during the upcoming meeting with the Meta team.
